Poland currently ranks fifth among European countries in terms of total expressway length, according to the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA). The roads that have been opened to traffic in recent years have allowed us to overtake the United Kingdom in this ranking.
Spain tops the list of European countries with the longest network of expressways, ahead of Germany and France. Italy is just behind the top three. Poland, in fifth place, has 1,671.5 km of highways and 2,164.8 km of expressways, for a total of over 3,936 km of expressways. Thanks to new infrastructure projects completed in recent years, we have managed to overtake the United Kingdom. We have left behind, among others, Portugal, the Netherlands, Turkey, and Sweden.
Currently, there are over 1,060 km of expressways under construction in the country, including over 110 km of highways. In August of this year, the first section of a highway in over three years was opened to traffic. This refers to the nearly 32-km section of the A1 highway between Zawodzie and Pyrzowice. So far in 2019, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) has opened a total of nearly 130 km of new expressways to drivers, including almost 108 km of Class S roads.
Despite the relatively good medium-term outlook, we must not forget that insulation manufacturers are currently facing very difficult circumstances.
