There are approximately 15.8 million dogs and cats living in Polish households. Owners’ growing willingness to spend on their pets’ health—including health products, supplements, and products that support their well-being, as well as the humanization of pets and a growing awareness of the importance of preventive care, are driving the growth of the pet health products market—according to our latest report, “The Pet Health Products Market in Poland.”
Poland stands out for its high rate of pet ownership compared to other European countries. Fifty percent of households own dogs, compared to an average of 31% in Europe, while 43% own cats, compared to 29%. At the same time, there is growing interest in premium products and dynamic growth in e-commerce. Pet owners are also increasingly willing to invest in their pets’ health, turning to products that support their health and daily well-being.
In 2025, demand was further bolstered by the strong financial situation of Poles—rising real wages and a greater willingness to dip into their savings.
The humanization of dogs and cats is changing the way we think about their health. Health products, including supplements and formulations that support animal health, are increasingly becoming part of routine care rather than merely a response to a problem that has already arisen.
– The survey results clearly show how strong the bond between owners and their pets is today. For 79% of those who buy health products for dogs and 77% of those who buy products for cats, their pet is a member of the family. Their health needs are viewed similarly—75% of respondents for dogs and 72% for cats treat these needs as those of a loved one. The humanization of animals is thus increasingly reflected in the way owners approach their pets’ health and daily care.

Consumers who purchase pet health products have a wide range of options to choose from. In the 12 months leading up to the survey, they purchased health products from an average of 3.67 categories, and two-thirds of them purchased products from two to six categories.
When making a purchase, the most important factors are the ingredients, the active ingredients, the product’s suitability, and its quality. 81% of dog product buyers and 78% of cat product buyers cite ingredients and active ingredients as a key factor in their decision. Cat product buyers are more likely to be interested in new ingredients, while dog owners are more likely to say they are willing to pay extra for quality.

The market for animal health products remains heavily concentrated in the veterinary channel. At the same time, the growth of e-commerce and the rising popularity of specialty categories are expanding opportunities to reach pet owners.
– The market outlook remains positive. Its continued growth will be driven by the rising popularity of pets, the humanization of dogs and cats, education on preventive care, and pet owners’ increasing willingness to invest in their pets’ health.
