X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, and MRI scans are an integral and ever-growing part of modern medicine. According to our latest report, “The Diagnostic Imaging Services Market in Poland,” more than 60 million diagnostic imaging exams were performed in Poland in 2023 alone. Based on these calculations, this averages out to 1.7 such procedures per patient. Despite this, many Poles still struggle to access these technologies.
An increasing number of Poles are using diagnostic imaging. As indicated by 47% of the surveyed management staff at diagnostic imaging facilities in Poland, one of the key factors is growing awareness of the direct benefits for patients. According to data from the NIK (Supreme Audit Office), nearly 80% of clinical decisions are currently made based on the results of imaging tests, such as X-rays, CT (computed tomography), MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), or ultrasound (ultrasonography). This type of diagnostic imaging helps in quickly establishing an accurate diagnosis, monitoring treatment, and preventive healthcare.
Our study shows that the diagnostic imaging market has significant growth potential. Two factors are particularly noteworthy:
The highest number of diagnostic imaging facilities per capita is found in the counties surrounding the cities of Katowice, Szczecin, Konin, Warsaw, Kielce, and Poznań. However, there are still areas where access to specialized diagnostic services is severely limited. These include rural areas and cities with smaller populations. The healthcare infrastructure in these regions is often underfunded. Another problem is the lack of adequately qualified staff, particularly in smaller centers—radiologists and technicians capable of operating modern equipment. Patients who cannot undergo complex diagnostic tests locally are forced to travel to larger cities.

This material was prepared based on the PMR Market Experts report, “The Diagnostic Imaging Services Market in Poland 2024: Market Analysis and Growth Forecasts for 2024–2029.” The experts conducted a survey of a random stratified sample of 200 diagnostic imaging facilities. The survey was conducted from July 15 to August 8, 2024, using a combination of CAPI (Computer-Assisted Personal Interview) and CATI (Computer-Assisted Telephone Interview) techniques.
