Changes and the Future of Renewable Energy Farms in Poland—What Will the Coming Years Bring?

The situation on the Polish renewable energy farm market remains highly dynamic and is constantly evolving. In PMR’s latest report, “The Renewable Energy Farm Market in Poland 2024,” we present a comprehensive market analysis along with 5-year growth forecasts.

Solar Farms

The photovoltaic farm segment is the part of the market where the investment climate has noticeably deteriorated compared to last year. The situation has become very complicated, and the changes are rapid—and, unfortunately, to the detriment of investors.

Onshore wind farms

Despite the fact that the onshore wind farm sector is experiencing disappointment stemming from the new government’s failure to liberalize the regulations of the so-called “distance law,” which was intended to reduce the minimum distance from buildings from 700 to 500 meters, the investment climate today appears to be better than in the photovoltaic farm segment. This is due to both the measures taken last year and the prospects for favorable changes, as well as greater resilience to the systemic problems that have affected photovoltaic farm owners this year.

Offshore Wind Farms

The offshore wind farm market in Poland is in its early stages of development, while intensive efforts are underway to launch the first projects. In the first phase of offshore wind farm development, projects with a total capacity of 5.9 GW are scheduled to be completed by 2030. It is currently estimated that the implementation of the first phase is about half a year behind schedule.

Market Shifts — Changes in the 2024 Ranking of the Largest Investors in Renewable Energy Farms

The dynamic nature of the market is evidenced by the numerous changes in our TOP 25 ranking of the largest investors by installed capacity in operational renewable energy farms in Poland (as of the end of Q1 2024). In the case of solar farms, only two investors hold exactly the same position as they did a year ago. Slightly less dramatic shifts occurred in the ranking of investors with wind power assets. Nevertheless, here too, only seven investors remained in the same position year-over-year.
